My Middle Name is Procrastinator - Updated

So, this week we hit 27 Weeks!!! According to some sources, this means the 3rd Trimester, but I think 28 Weeks might be the more 'official' marker...so, I'll wait until next week for the big 3rd Trimester celebration. Nonetheless, all of this means that our little Tater will be here SO SOON!!! Given the title of this post, this might not be a good thing. I have had so many people ask, "Oh, have you gotten the nursery all together?"... My answer = "Nope, haven't done anything." Or people want to know if we've got the name all picked out... Again, my answer = "Nope."

Hmmm... so what have we done. Well, I have ordered the crib and it is ready to pick up, so hopefully assembling that should be a task that will help get the ball rolling. What else... well, as previously mentioned, my mom and I did pick out the fabric for the crib bedding (HUGE check on the to-do list). I've been told that it shouldn't take any time to make it, so hopefully, I'll have (almost) complete bedding back in a week or so. Notice, I said "almost"... that's because I have tasked myself with making the crib skirt with my newly acquired sewing skills. OR, with the no-sew, heat-bonded seaming stuff they have out there these days. Here's the link to my back-up plan if the regular sewing doesn't work out.

I'm thinking that once the crib is up and bedding is in place, we can start the picking out the paint process. I have a couple swatches that I think could work, but I have not had the best of luck in picking paint colors. I lay in bed every night looking at our master bedroom going "this is not at all how I enivisioned this." Anyways, I'm hoping that with a crib and bedding in place, we can paint a few things on the wall and let them all soak in for a few days in all the various lights, etc. I think we're wimping out though and going to hire someone else to paint since it also involves the ceiling. Maybe while they're at it, they can paint all the other ceilings, and the kitchen cabinets, and add moulding, and..... (does this list ever end!).

The two other major tasks for the nursery include (attempting) painting the dresser in our room to match the crib and painting the child's armoire that's been used in at least 3 generations of nurseries on my mom's side. For the dresser, I still can't figure out if it's veneer or just that shilacky (sp??) finish. I need to find a discreet spot to do a little test sanding. This could end up being a major disaster, which, I won't cry about. I got this dresser at a garage sale nearly 10 years ago and it's seen better days. With a fresh coat of paint and new pulls, it should look pretty good. If I destroy it though, I guess we'll just buy the inexpensive dresser/changing table that goes with the crib. Again, here's my plan of action from my favorite DIY blog. The armoire has been painted and painted again, so I know that it won't be an issue to sand and paint a 3rd or 4th time. I may not go matchy-matchy with it and instead paint it a color, maybe blue. I found some really cute green and white polka dot pulls at Hobby Lobby that perfectly match the bedding and potential wall color. We'll see how that all turns out. I'll be sure to do some before and after pics of everything.

I've got lots of other little ideas, but for now, we need to accomplish the aforementioned tasks before we even start thinking about accessorizing and decorating. So, I'll leave you with that.

Here's me at 27 weeks! Looks like I've got a basketball inside me (which is apparently how big my uterus is by now! CRAZY!

I'm still just in awe of how drastic my body changes have been over the last 6 weeks or so. Here's a quick belly recap...one word = "WOW"!!!

19/20 weeks (~7-8 weeks ago) - Just a teeny little bump!

And even at ~22 weeks (~5 weeks ago) - Still pretty teeny bump

And now at 27 weeks - Not so teeny bump!

I have definitely "popped" and am now easily recognized as pregnant. It's kind of nice! :-) My back has started hurting though. It's not severe, just a constant dull pain. The trips to the bathroom have increased. Tater's movements are also much stronger and I can really see him moving in there. I was laying in bed at my parent's house last Thursday and it really looked like he was swimming in circles. Every now and then he gives a big 'ole kick or punch right to my bladder that really kind of hurts and is uncomfortable. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. I just think how lucky women are to be able to experience this (I may be saying something different in the delivery room), because there really isn't anything like it. Andrew's asked what it feels like, and I know there is no way for me to really describe it so that he could understand. My energy level has picked up and I've started walking more and doing some of the Exercise on Demand stuff at home with Andrew. I definitely needed all the energy I had for this past weekend on my trip with my dad (see below).

FYI - This past weekend I went with my dad and 11 other father-daughter teams (all 8th graders) up to Oklahoma for a little backpacking. We had a WONDERFUL time!!! I'm waiting on some pictures from my dad and then I'll give a full report! In the meantime, if you want to check out this amazing organization that we help mentor, High Adventure Treks for Dads & Daughters (HATS), check it out!

If you know of anyone in the DFW area that has a daughter in the 4th to 9th grades, definitely pass this info on to them. :-)

Here a Trout, there a Trout, everywhere a Trout...

The weekend before last, we decided to take it easy and stick around the house. Cleaning and wrapping up work in the flower beds and yard were the big things on the agenda. Friday didn't involve too much except trying to get the house cleaned up for Andrew's dad. Wanda was off on one of her sorority events in Wimberley, so he thought he'd come hang out with us and go fishing. We boiled crawfish on Saturday evening after Mass and then went fishing in the Intracoastal on Sunday morning. I'm pretty keen on enjoying as much sleep now as I can, so I wimped out on the early morning fishing and instead slept in and had them meet me back at the boat ramp around 9. I really liked this situation. I got to sleep in and catch fish. Usually those two things don't go together.

Anyways, the guys reported that the fishing had been pretty good so far, so we headed back to the Outfall to see what else we could catch. We were all fishing with swimbaits for the most part and catching a few trout here or there, but then switched over to a top water lure. It started lightly raining, and I don't know what it was about the rain, but the fish just turned on. Almost every cast, trout were hitting on the top and it was pretty much non-stop. The vast majority we were catching earlier hadn't been keepers, but most of these were. It was definitely very exciting and probably one of the best days we've had out there in a long time. It was definitely the best top water fishing we could remember.

Dan & I chillin' in the boat...

For some reason, we didn't take any pictures of any of the fish we caught, but I think we ended up with about 20 keepers. Andrew fried up some of the fresh trout, along with the leftover crawfish tails for dinner. YUM YUM! Sadly, trout (and any other gulf fish) are supposed to be off-limits while I'm pregnant, but fresh fried trout is just too good to pass up, so I splurged and had a piece... just melts in your mouth with NO fish taste at all... FABULOUS!!! Those fried crawfish tails are pretty darn delicious too! We eat good around here, that's for sure!!!

April 14th - A VERY good day!!!

This past Wednesday, Andrew and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary! I still can't believe how fast time has gone by. Everything in life seems to go by much quicker once you reach adulthood... which, I still find it hard to believe that I'm an adult. Then I realize how much I've done that is "adult-like." I've graduated from college and grad school, I have a job, I pay taxes, I got married, I have a mortgage, I'm PREGNANT! Anyways, forgive me as I digress, it's just amazing how slow the first 18 years seemed to go by in comparison to the last 10. I'm sure my parents would disagree, since they were the "adults" during that time.

So, back to our anniversary. I just feel SO incredibly blessed to have married Andrew. I truly love him more every day. He's so much more of the person that I had always hoped to marry today than he was then. Not because he's changed, but because we continue to learn more about each other and he just continuously shows me what a wonderful, family-first, loving, selfless man he is. You think you know someone and love someone the day you marry them, only to discover how much more there is to someone once you begin building a life together. Unfortunately, many people find out more about the person that they don't like, but thankfully, that is not the case here. Of course, we all have our little habits and things that drive us crazy about each other, but you just deal with it. That Brad Paisley song, "I Thought I Loved You Then" pretty much sums up what I'm talking about. I just look forward to raising our son (and hopefully another child) together and experiencing all there is to life as we grow old together. I hope that when we're old and gray (or bald), we can still just sit on the porch at the farm and do nothing and be perfectly content.

As an anniversary/baby gift, Andrew bought me my first digital SLR camera and I am SO excited. He got me the Nikon D3000 which is supposed to be great and super easy to use. It's gotten wonderful reviews, so hopefully I can master it. I like to think I know what I'm doing when I'm taking pictures, but I really have NO clue. I just LOVE talking pictures. If Tater is documented even half as much as our pups or hunting trips, we'll have more than our fair share of pictures. I've debated it we should upgrade to the D5000 that includes video capabilities, but I never really take video on the camera that I have. We have a video camera that records straight on to DVD's (which I kind of regret), but I've also thought about some of the new, super compact little digital video cameras as well. Any thoughts?!?!

For Andrew, my little fisherman, I hooked him up with a second Shimano Curado reel. For the life of me, I don't understand why some reels cost what they do, but you can definitely tell a difference when you are fishing with them. I wanted to get the whole set-up, with the rod he really likes, but they didn't have the 7' length at Academy... so, I gave him a rain check and we'll keep looking. He had just been talking about replacing all the cheap reels with higher quality ones, so I know he was excited.

Andrew treated my to a delicious home-cooked backstrap dinner. This is always one of my favorites and NOT something you can get at a restaurant. We (well, HE) tends to just cook something that we love at home for our anniversary, which is perfectly fine with me. Last year we had King Crab legs.

April 14th was also a great day because I got my official appraisal certification in the mail. I am now a State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in Texas. This is something I've been working toward pretty much since I graduated. I have wanted to pull my hair out a few times during the process, and just about lost my mind after completing the exam, but I did it!

Lastly, April 14th was a great day because I mailed my taxes in. I usually complete them in February via Turbo Tax, but this year we decided to have a real CPA do them. I never claimed the casualty loss from Hurricane Ike on my 2008 return, so I wanted to do an amended return, plus I wanted to make sure I was doing the whole home office and Andrew's fishing tournaments thing right. It was kind of nice to just drop everything off into an accountant's hands and then pick it up when it was done. Now, if I was only more organized throughout the year, the dropping it off part would have been much easier. It took a while to get everything together. I'm just ready for my check from the IRS. I know it's our money to begin with, and we gave them a free loan... but I'll gladly take it back now. Thank you. :-)

Like Father, Like Son...

Every year, Andrew and his dad take a father-son trip for a week or so (jealous yet?, because I always am). Yes, this trip usually involves fishing of some kind. This year, they went a little earlier so that Andrew wasn't M.I.A. while I was huge and uncomfortable or if little Tater decided he wanted to make an early appearance. They stuck around after Easter at the Farm for several days (which meant we didn't have to clean up before we left!) and then headed to their deer lease in Stonewall (near Fredericksburg). The time at the Farm was spent fishing mainly at Fayette County Lake, which almost always is 1) good fishing and 2) crowded. I got several texts and pictures during the day about how amazing the fishing was. Luckily they went during the week so the crowd thing wasn't really an issue.

Here are a few pictures from Fayette County...

And one from the lake at the deer lease...

Andrew said that the fishing there was unreal. They were hitting HUGE lures and Andrew was just having fun throwing different things to see what they would hit because it seemed like nothing could fail. Here's one big sucker!...

Since there were three cameras floating around between the two of us during Easter, I'm just now uploading the rest of the pictures. Check it out...

25 Weeks - I Feel an Outey Comin' On (think that "whoop comin' on" song)

So yesterday marked the 25 week point and I can definitely tell I've grown a lot over the last month or so. What's crazy is that I've only put on about half the weight that I probably will. I think I've gained ~14 pounds so far. So, with 15 weeks to go and about a pound a week growth, that sounds about right.

I don't quite have an outey yet, but I can tell it's coming. If I'm laying down for reclining and then try to get up, sometimes it kind of pops out just a little bit. I don't know if there was a head or foot or what, but last night when we were watching TV and I tried to sit up, it looked like I was carrying a Conehead in my belly. I swear my stomach looked triangular as I sat up. Andrew and I were laughing out loud because it was so funny looking. Tater is definitely active and is constantly kicking and moving around. Both my mom and Andrew's mom have got to feel him kick too. YAY!

Anyways, I feel good, but am definitely seeing how I will start being uncomfortable pretty soon. My back has started hurting some, but not too bad yet.

So, here are some 25-ish week pictures.

Mommy and Me Time!!!

It's been a few days since I've last posted because I have had some wonderful company. My sweet mommy came down from Dallas for several days while Andrew and Dan were on their annual father-son trip. They caught tons of fish and had a really great time too... I'll post some of those pics separately.

Mom flew into Houston last Wednesday night and then spent the whole weekend with me, mostly doing baby-related things. Thursday I still had to work so she asked for some "projects" around the house that she could work on. That's a scary thing to ask at my house...I have LOTS of projects. So, I easily fulfilled her request and by mid-morning she was sanding and priming a little piece of furniture that no longer matched the rest of the kitchen. Since that was going so quickly, I planned ahead that she could also help jazz up our front flower beds a little more. We went and had lunch at Novrosky's (since I had a coupon for free cheese fries... a pregnant or non-pregnant Emily's dream!!!) and then hit up Lowes for some more paint and flowers. It was a beautiful day and I have to say I was jealous that I couldn't be outside helping her plant some of the flowers. She's had way better luck with her flower beds than we have ever had, so (fingers crossed) hopefully her heat and sun-loving selections will make it through the summer. She got just about everything planted except those flowers we reserved for a few pots. I wanted to make some contribution, so I saved those for later while she took a nap... she was working hard!!! We were both pretty pooped Thursday night and didn't really feel like cleaning up to go eat somewhere, so we just ordered some Cheddar's takeout before our favorite Thursday night show, Project Runway. It was fun to actually watch a show when it was on with someone else. I usually have to record everything since most of the shows I enjoy Andrew could care less about (except Modern Family and Breaking Bad). I don't blame him though, I would not classify most of my shows as things most guys would watch. Anyways, we hit the sack pretty early since I had an early doctor's appointment on Friday.

Friday we got up early and skipped breakfast since I had to do my gestational diabetes/blood glucose screening. Fasting is not fun. Luckily, most of my 8 hours was while I was asleep. As the nurse put it, you are never more hungry than when you are told you can't eat. That sugar water stuff they make you drink definitely will get you a little jittery... I think Tater liked it though. He was moving all around while we were in our doctor appointment and then waiting the hour for them to draw blood. I thought his heartbeat would be off the charts, but no, it was a perfectly healthy 140. The doc said everything else looked good and gave me some more comfort about the whole single umbilical artery thing. My mom got to meet my doctor too, which I know she was happy about. I haven't gotten the results from the glucose test, but I'm hoping that all looks good too. I've heard the long test is really not fun, so hopefully that won't be necessary. If I don't get a call in a couple days, I should be good to go.

Once we headed out of the doctor's office, I was really starving, so a big IHOP breakfast sounded like a nice treat. While we were there, I got a quick lesson on how quickly babies can get their hands on something. There were two women behind us with two little boys. One of the mom's turned her head for 2 seconds and that little boy had the whole coffee pot that they leave on the end of the table in his hands. Luckily, she caught it just in time, but I could have easily seen that situation have a different outcome. Breakfast was delicious, and I made a happy plate. :-)

I had two missions for the weekend:

1) Find fabrics for the crib bedding
2) Start registering

I am SO lucky and excited that one of our dear friends has offered to make the crib bedding. She made the bedding for her 3 children and it looks GREAT! Bedding is so expensive too, especially when they grow so fast! We have a $79.99 bed-in-a-bag set from Marshalls, so I really couldn't justify spending at least $200-$300 (if not more) for some of the bedding sets that I had seen online that I really liked. That's just crazy! The biggest challenge was finding several fabrics that all went together. The plan was to have one material for the outside of the bumper pad, one for the inside, and one for the skirt. I've seen material used for thick cording or a ruffle too, so that makes 3-4 different fabrics. We went to Hobby Lobby first... nothing. Then we went across the street to the JoAnn's Superstore. Amazingly, it was all there! We found 3 prints (1 print that kind of has that Moroccan/stained glass window feel, 1 stripe, and 1 dot) we liked and then a complementing dot chenille for the inside of the bumper pad. I really, really liked it and couldn't really imagine being able to find anything else that went together so well. So, we got big swatches of each (since the sales lady said it wasn't going on sale until Sunday), and decided we would check out a couple more places in Houston just to be sure this is what I wanted. I always want to see all my options before making a decision. It reminded me of wedding dress shopping. I'd find something I love, but then didn't want to commit until I felt like I had seen everything else. This will drive you crazy. On Saturday, we did end up going to Glick in Houston and nothing really jumped out at me. I'd find one thing I liked, but then I couldn't find anything else that went with it. So, after we left, I just told myself "you're done" and decided that the decision had been made. One thing marked off the checklist... WHOOP!!!

On Friday, we also went into Target and Babies R Us just to browse through all the baby stuff. We went into Target first and left with 2 pairs of sandals (for me) and 3 cute, footed onesies that were on clearance. :-) We then went into Babies R Us. After a quick walk-thru, we decided, let's just go ahead and get this registering thing started. We filled out some short paper work and then got the zapper gun. When Andrew and I registered for our wedding, we did it all online, so it was fun to physically go through the store and zap stuff. We pretty much stuck with the basics since I thought I needed to do more research on the big ticket items (i.e. stroller, car seat, high chair, etc.). I feel like I'm shopping for a new car (except that I've never really done that either). There are SO many... no, let me take that back... TOO MANY options. We already have a Peg Perego infant car seat that someone gave us, so the whole travel system thing doesn't seem necessary. We're thinking one of those convertible car seats that they can use up to 65 pounds is probably the best way to go. We've heard the Britax Marathon is a great choice... plus, I think the "cowmooflauge" print (i.e. cow print) is super cute and won't show dirt or puke! I haven't ran the whole cow print thing by Andrew yet, but maybe since it's kind of like camoflauge, he'll love it. :-) I think the stroller is what I'm struggling with the most. Everyone has a different opinion. I know a couple people with the BOB Revolution and they swear by it. I'm not really a jogger, but I do like to walk and we do a lot outdoors and the all-terrain design is probably something we would appreciate. There are a couple others that people have mentioned that look great too... decisions, decisions. Nonetheless, the process was started, so I feel really good about that. Now, we just need to physically start making progress in the nursery. After all the painting we've already done, I think we might just give in and pay someone to paint the nursery and ceiling. We've decided we're not that great at it and we might enjoy the nursery process more if someone else did that part.

Friday night I took Mom to Larry's French Market to experience a little Southeast Texas flavor. She's been there before, but it's always a fun place because they have a live zydeco band. We both got crawfish and gumbo, and even splurged and had dessert too. I had to re-teach her how to eat crawfish, but she did pretty good. I had to admit, I was a little embarrassed when she was wiping all the yellow stuff off and pulling every vein out, but what do you expect from a "Yankee" (i.e. anyone living north of I-10... according to Andrew)! Just kidding MOM!!!! Love you!!!

After we got home, Steel Magnolias was on TV, so we watched it since she had never seen the whole thing. I can't say anything, because Andrew nearly hit the floor when I told him I had never seen Goonies, Lost Boys, or Teen Wolf. That has since changed, but I don't know where our family was during the 80's!?!? :-) Mom also got to feel Tater kick for the first time. I always get excited when someone else gets to experience what I get to experience every day!

Saturday we got up pretty early and then drove in to Houston to meet my sweet friend Lindsay for brunch at Empire Cafe. We had big plans on sitting out on the patio and enjoying a beautiful Saturday morning, but unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans. It had been raining, so we sat inside instead. My fabulous omelet was delicious either way! We had a nice visit. I always love seeing my old friends. It makes me realize how much I miss just getting to hang out with them on a regular basis.

As I mentioned before, we then went to Glick to check out fabric but had no luck. If I was recovering a chair, I would have been in Heaven though. As were were wandering around a section near a display crib, there was a pregnant girl with her mom and aunt who were clearly frustrated. We had pulled out our samples from JoAnn's to compare some colors and they were like, "Where did you get that?!?!" Apparently, they were having twin boys and she wanted green and her husband wanted blue. So, our combination was pretty on-point with what they were looking for. They took a picture and were going to go to JoAnn's to check it out. I'm glad we might have helped solve their problem. I was just thankful that I was not in her shoes and having twins... wow! They said they had gone to High Fashion and hadn't found anything. Since were were looking for similar things, Mom and I decided to not waste time going to High Fashion and to call the fabric search off. We were done. We found it. :-)

We didn't have too much time left before we needed to head back to Baytown, so we decided to pull off into Highland Village. We made a pretty quick run through Pottery Barn Kids and then headed into a baby/children's clothing store called Janie & Jack. I had never heard of it, but it looked like they had some cute things in the window... and did they ever! They had some precious little clothes, many of which were on sale. We found some alligator-themed pieces that we just could not resist. Mom decided to buy Tater a whole spring collection, so she thought she'd just wrap it up and give it to me at a shower. Sounds good to me! :-)

Saturday night we went and ate at Artista with Wanda and her friend (and mine too) Carolyn before seeing In the Heights at the Hobby Center. The show was not at all what I expected, well, I didn't really know what to expect. It was different. I'm used to the classic Broadway productions with elaborate sets and costumes with big numbers that just make you go "WOW"! This wasn't really like that at all. The setting and characters were somewhat of a modern-day West Side Story, but a lot of the songs were almost like raps. The main character sounded like Eminem in several of his solos. Not all the songs were like that though. There were some good numbers and most of the dancing was really high energy (combination of street dancing and Latin), several funny moments, but overall it just wasn't my style of show. I was entertained for the most part, but I definitely wouldn't see it again.

Sunday we got up and went to IHOP again for breakfast. Wanda's kitchen is being remodeled, so breakfast at home wasn't really an option. You don't have to twist my arm though to go to IHOP. I made another happy plate. After we got back, Mom packed up and then we just sat and talked and looked at more baby gear/registry stuff online. I had such a great time, I didn't want her to leave. Hopefully, she will be able to come back in May with Nina so we can all hang out again. I know there wont' be much time for that after Tater gets here. Love ya MOMMA!!! :-)

Home Sewing Project #1 = DONE!

Back to the Susie Homemaker thing... I finally sat down and made the new valance for the kitchen. I was fine with the old one, but it didn't really go with everything since we painted and got a new rug. I have some chocolate brown piping that I may add on the little flap to give a little more detail and dimension, but we'll see. I know it would look better, but I'm kind of okay with being "done" and not "kind of done." :-)
