Why? Wednesday

Am I the only person who writes things on their "To Do" list after they've already done them just so there's something to scratch off?

Why can't people just drive nice?

Did anyone see that 86 year old man that got the gardener shears stuck in his eye socket this morning on GMA???? Oh. My. Gosh.

Why do I even try to keep flowers alive during the summer? {Seriously considering planting cactus or those little palm tree things next year.}

Why is there always one hair stuck on my sleeve and just barely brushing my arm which drives me CRAZY?

How do more kids not chip their teeth?

Who said walking was scarier? {Carson can thank crawling for all his injuries.}

Do shipping logistics fascinate anyone else? I am AMAZED that I could get something clear across the country in one day {if I pay for it, of course}. I'm also amazed by the bulk of mail that manages to get to every person, every day.

How is it already SEPTEMBER {tomorrow}?!?!

Why would anyone want a glass top stove? I am SO over ours... anytime anything goes over the edge of the pot, it burns to the surface and is NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE to get off, even with fancy glass top cleaner. ANNOYING.

Isn't it just cool to think of all the millions of places to live in the world and wonder how everyone ended up where they are? Also, how one decision can change the course of your life forever? No pressure there.

When will it stop being SO FREAKING HOT???????????? {Haven't I asked that one before???}

One Small Step for {a little} Man

It just occurred to me that I NEVER made a post about Carson WALKING!!!

Right around his 1st birthday he took his first steps...wait...let me consult the "Baby's 1st Year Calendar" for the specifics.

Here we go... July 17th - Took 2 steps toward Daddy {This event got the "First Step" sticker on the calendar.}

July 20th - Took 4 steps toward Mommy

From July 20th until August 5th, we would usually get a few steps a day, but that was it.

Then.... When we were up in Dallas for Birthday Numbero Dos, the kid just took off in my parents' living room! Since they only get to see him about once a month, this was GREAT!!!

From mastering the push toys....

To the early days of little steps...

To taking a few more steps at my parents house...

Of course, when we were at my parents' house and he really started walking, I didn't have the video camera. When I got it out, he didn't do too much. He's really motoring now and is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Some day I'll get a good video of the little man in action. He's still turned kind of sideways when he walks. Adorable.

Crash!!!

So Carson has this game he just LOVES to play....we call it "Crash." He loves to jump on the couch {okay, I know this is probably a bad idea, but whatever, it's worth it...for now}, and then dramatically "crash" and roll around. It's not the best video because our living room is a dungeon... definitely much better to see it in person. This kid is such a goober!

Make Ya Frown Monday - Snaggletooth!!!

Well today is "Make Ya FROWN Monday"...

My sweet baby decided to eat the hardwood floor on Saturday morning. We ended up with this....

"Ahhh, poor kid"... yes, I know. That's why it's "Make Ya FROWN Monday".

For those who don't know, I chipped my two front teeth at Wet 'N Wild in the 5th grade. So, I guess this runs in the family.

Carson was just playing chase the ball with himself {and Lucy too} and just got to crawling a little too fast. I guess his legs were going faster than his little arms and he pretty much faceplanted into the ground. This is about the 3rd time it's happened. The first two resulting in a bloody, busted lip. Third time must be a charm because it resulted in a chipped tooth. {And people get more nervous when a child starts walking! For us walking has been WAY safer... why he was crawling instead of walking, who knows."}

The was crying and screaming for about 5-10 minutes, but then was fine. I gave him his cold sippy cup and that was all it took for him to calm down. There didn't appear to be any blood, which is a good thing, but it still is a pretty good chip. Luckily, I was already scheduled for my teeth cleaning tomorrow, so they told me to go ahead and bring him in. I think they're going to do an x-ray and then decide if I need to go see some kind of pediatric dentist or surgeon or something. I'll be sure to give an update when we know what the next steps are, if anything. It's probably 50/50 that we'll do nothing and he'll just be a snaggletooth until he's about 6. Poor kid. I hope kids don't tease him and call him names. It really is amazing to me that more kids don't do this. He wasn't even walking, I mean, he was inches off the floor. It must have been just the right angle. Ouch!!!

1st Haircut!!!

Yes, we did it, we cut our sweet little boy's hair. It was just getting pretty wild around the ears and was getting in his eyes in front. I wanted to keep as many of those sweet curls in the back though. So, on August 17th, we headed over to Cropo's, the local, small town barber shop on Boston Avenue (our equivalent to an old-town "Main Street" retail area) for a little trim.

Okay, one of the main reasons we got it cut was because 7 people have thought he was a girl... or at least 7 verbally have said "she" or called him a girl to our faces. It's just because he's so beautiful, right?!?!? :-)

Carson was having some serious allergy issues and was already not in the greatest mood, so everything didn't start out too smoothly. He did NOT want to sit in the seat by himself, so he sat with Daddy. Daddy hasn't sat in a barber shop chair in a LONG time! {That's what happens when you're almost bald!}

Should have done this earlier...the sucker was the magic trick!

Look at that handsome little man!!!

He even got a certificate to go in his baby book!

YAY for milestones!!!

Birthday #2 - Dallas Style

This is probably the ONLY year Carson will get two birthday parties, but since we don't get to see all our Dallas family and friends often enough, we went ahead and had a second shindig. We kept this one a little simpler {lesson learned from party numero uno}. My parents had it catered from Red Hot & Blue BBQ and we skipped the cupcakes since we had so many left over after the first party. I still made my cookies, but I just did bones and didn't do the dogs and fire hydrants. It was SO much easier to just do one shape and one frosting color.

There were quite a few little kiddos there which was so cute to watch {and was a little scary...I heard the phrase "Toddler Hell" enough from one mom to scare anyone!}.

My camera wasn't the one that used the most, so I don't have too many pictures to share {by comparison to what you normally see from me!}.

Don't worry... we didn't give him the whole cake this time {Lesson learned from B-Day #1}

Just a little in the eyes this time...

The Men & Little Boys - Andrew, Carson, Joel, & Rylan

We had a great time and THANK YOU to everyone who came! We really appreciate it!

The biggest thing that happened this weekend wasn't the party...it was that Carson really started WALKING!!! For a couple weeks he'd been taking a couple steps here and there {four was probably the record so far}, but he just TOOK OFF on Saturday night! YAY!!! More on that to come...

Oh, and the portable DVD player Andrew bought right before we left, Yo Gabba Gabba DVD's, and a forward-facing child are the only things that made that drive BEARABLE. Someone does NOT like to sleep in the car anymore...sigh.

BUSTED!!!

Who, Me?

Maybe I'll just eat the evidence?

Naaahhh, shredding it even more is WAY more fun!

Well, I AM hungry?

Destructive stage????... just maybe!!!
