Random Silliness!

Proud Moment - Carson's 1st Fish!!!

Last Sunday, August 19th, was a proud day in the Peters' household!  Our little man caught his FIRST FISH!!!  I think this is a prety big deal for any kid, but it is an especially big deal in a house where fishing isn't just something you do every now and then, it's beyond a hobby, it's a passion and way of life.

My brother and his girlfriend Erin were in town too, so we thought it was a good Sunday afternoon activity to go do all together.

First, the get-up. He had to look the part, so I dressed in him in overalls (b/c skeeters can be really bad where we were going), a toddler Columbia fishing shirt, camo A&M hat, and camo rubber boots.

We were taking a risk by going close to nap time, but he woke up once we got there.

We headed down to the boat ramp at Andrew's work, loaded with our Mickey Mouse fishing pole and box of nightcrawlers (worms)....

There's a drop-off and he's curious... so made him wear the life jacket... safety first!

First line in the water!  Waiting patiently...

See that smile!

Got one!

Reel it in!!

YAY!!!  First fish!!!

He really was excited!

Potential Christmas Card???

Going for #2!

Got it!

He got it over the edge all by himself!

One proud Daddy!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these boys!!!

I have to admit, and Andrew did too, we both were a little emotional by this whole experience.  Like I said, catching a first fish is a really big deal... kind of a rite of passage.  I think this was the first time Andrew really got to share his passion with his son, and it not just be one-sided.  Carson clearly knew what was going on and showed excitement, which I know just filled Andrew's heart with joy.  I think one of his biggest fear in raising a child is that child not enjoying the things he is SO passionate about.  I don't think we expect any child to necessarily be as passionate as Andrew, but I just think it would be sad to have a child who could care less about the outdoors.  There are so many life lessons that can be taught through outdoor experiences.  We will certainly be supportive of any (or at least most!) hobbies/sports/etc. that our children want to pursue.  We just hope that outdoor activities are some of them!  :-)

This fishing stuff is tough work!

Snack break!

Checking out the shrimp boats...

Mr. Vanna White...

The 'monster' bass (only about 3") I caught and the 'monster' ladyfish my brother caught...

Checking out Uncle Dave's fish

Throwing rocks was way more fun (or at least kept his attention for much longer!)

This went on for about an hour...

He wandered a little too far down the boat ramp and slipped...

Andrew's monster perch! (or not)

We had so much fun and hope there are many more family fishing days in our future!  I know Andrew's ready to get the little man out on the new Ranger!  Carson's not so sure about going fast though.  I admit, it's kinda scary!

I'll make another post with some of the videos from the day.
