Our Little Wiggle Worm

As I expected with a second child, I have not done nearly as many blog posts as I would have liked.  I am SO behind!!!  I think I stated earlier that Elizabeth has been a very different baby than Carson. Thankfully, she's been a ton easier.  I think this is a combination of the fact that she actually is a much easier baby and that I'm not a first-time mom.

I call her my little wiggle worm because that's exactly what she is. This girl does not like to sit still when you're holding her. She's nosy and has that head looking all around at all times.  She's always squirming and when they're this little, it makes it hard to hold her.  I feel like Carson was a better snuggler and a lot more of his naps took place on somebody. She doesn't take too many naps on one of us which I see as a good and bad thing.  I think it's great that she doesn't depend on sleeping on somebody to fall asleep but I also miss some of those sweet newborn snuggles.

Speaking of sleep, it doesn't appear that the 8- and 9-hour stretches that we got on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were a fluke. While she doesn't always sleep those long stretches, but she has consistently slept at least 6 hours at a time at night ever since, with only ONE exception.  It is very common for her to sleep 7 or 8 hours at a time though.  The first night at the farm this past weekend, she was on track to sleep 10+ hours.  I wanted to feed her before I went hunting, but she had been out for 9.5 hours when I fed her, and she never really woke up when I did feed her.  God must know that our other child keeps us on our toes, and Mommy and Daddy desperately need their sleep to keep up. :-).

My theory is that she was quickly able to get her days and nights figured out because when Carson is home it is so crazy during the day around here that it's pretty obvious when it's nighttime.  I have made it a point to have a very consistent evening routine (day time is pretty much up to her, but she's definitely starting to have a pretty regular pattern).  I've been cluster feeding late afternoon/early evening, bath sometime around 6-7, feed again and cat nap, and then betwen 8-9 go to her room, put on the noise machine, feed in the dark, rock for a few minutes, then put her down in her Fisher Price Rock 'N Play (thanks, Jeremy & Jamie!).  Amazingly, she's been on the same page, and only a few times have I had to go back in there.  I'm still just in shock.  With Carson, at 2 months, I was jumping up and down and screaming AMEN if he'd sleep one 4-5 hour stretch at night.  I think he also slept in our room for the first month.  The first couple weeks, I slept on the couch with her either in the swing or napper.  We then transitioned to her room, and I slept on the twin bed for a few days.  I can't seem to remember exactly when I finally moved back to my own bed (which was SO nice!) and left her in her room.  I'm thinking it was around the 3rd week.  I know I slept WAY better when I didn't hear every little sound.

It seems that most moms of multiple kids say they have one baby that's easy and when it's difficult and so far that's proving to be true. She hasn't had the bad reflux that he had which has made a huge difference.  She had pretty bad gas for a while, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her nearly as much any more.  She really has been pretty low maintenance.  She does like her mommy though.  :-)  There are times, especially in the evening, where she just wants me.

Not much has changed in the eating department. She is still an incredibly efficient nurser and generally only eats for 5-10 minutes at a time, usually on the lower end of that range.  During the day she usually wants to eat every hour and a half or two hours for a short period of time, which I will gladly take if she'll sleep for me eight hours a night.

1st Outing - Went with Mommy and Wannie to McAlisters for lunch, Dillards, & TJ Maxx (12-7-13) - She did have her first of many Target trips on 12-9-13 :-)

In the nap department, she usually takes a long nap in the morning, but I won't let her go much longer than 3 hours.  The rest of the day, she generally has awake time between 30 minutes and an hour after eating before she sleeps again.  The rest of the naps are shorter, and she's awake a lot more in the afternoon and early evening.  Naps are usually in the swing, but I'm trying to start using the crib.... it's just the whole 'laying flat after eating' thing that doesn't usually go over well.

Around 5-6 weeks she started smiling!  LOVE!!!!  She likes to be called a "pretty, pretty princess"!

She's been enjoying her baths in the sink in her Blooming Flower "bath tub" and also enjoyed her first farm bath.

She's not a huge fan of tummy time, but is amazingly strong.  I swear she just about rolled over on the bed at the farm.

Carson continues to be a great big brother in most ways.  He LOVES his baby sister and always wants to know what she's doing.  He's a little rough sometimes, but it's never with bad intentions.
