That Time of Year Again!

With the end of hunting season comes fishing season. It is in full force at our house! One of the huge perks of where we live is the close proximity to awesome fishing! If you want to catch redfish and trout, don't go pay a guide a bunch of money down in Rockport or something...just come here!

Redfish on the half-shell time... yummy!!!

Make Ya Smile Mondays

My mom and brother came down to Nederland this weekend. My mom hadn't seen Carson since mid-January and David hadn't seen him since Christmas. He's definitely changed a lot since then! Carson LOVED playing in the grass with the dogs and his grandmother!

My Little Cowboy...

Today was Go Texan Day in Houston. We don't exactly live in Houston anymore, but I still thought it would make a perfect excuse to put Carson in that adorable pearl snap he got for Christmas. First lesson...they should not make baby clothes with denim that doesn't stretch. There were some serious tears this morning just trying to get that dang thing on. Granted, it was unbeliveably precious once I finally got him in it. :-)

Daddy's cowboy hats really are "10-gallon" hats to the little man!!!

Happy Friday From My Little Mess Pot!!!

Last night was an exceptionally messy dinner; however, those make the best photo ops!

I Get Why People Quit Breastfeeding...

Don't worry, I'm not quitting... but OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those two little teeth can hurt!!! Carson has been feeling a little under the weather lately and has really been gnawing on everything more than normal. This morning he just bit on down...he must have thought I was one of his comfort toys or something. NOT. FUN.

He really only nurses twice a day now because of work... in the morning before I start working and right before bed, but if he keeps this up, it may end up being even less. He's still getting breastmilk, just not straight from the source. Breastfeeding has always been easy with him, and I've always enjoyed it, so I know I will be sad the day he no longer nurses. I'd also be sad the day I lost a nipple...okay, that may be an exaggeration. Anyways, we'll see how it goes.

New Trick!

Look at me, Mommy! Standing in my crib is fun!

He didn't quite pull up himself, but he'll stand there for a while if I put him there.

Ridin' in Style...

like a BIG boy that is!

It was definitely not Carson's first time at Target, but it was the first time he sat up in the shopping cart. He loved the new view and all the cool stuff to look at.

He kept grabbing at my shopping list, so I finally just let him hold it. Bad idea. He ate it. Literally.

I was standing in the aisle trying to fish out of his mouth what he hadn't already swallowed. Another woman (who only could have been a mom) walked by and started cracking up... "Been there," she said. A little paper never hurt anyone, right?

He was a total stud, minus the shopping list incident. Glad this milestone is checked off the list. Peace out Target, until next time. :-)

1st Party!

LuLu had her 3rd birthday party while we were up at the lake, but have no fear. Carson was not going to miss his first birthday party. Wannie and Papi took Carson so he could see all his cousins. They had a BLAST! When "Baby Carson" is anywhere, he tends to be the center of attention!

Change of Heart?

So our son has been anti-pacifier since he was about 2 months old. I've kept one in his crib just because he does occasionally chew on the side of it. Well, I kid you not, yesterday afternoon that child just picked it up, put it in his mouth, and held it there until he fell asleep. He didn't sleep too long, but then he just laid in there playing with his feet and sucking away. What the heck???

Check Out Those Chompers!!!

Weekend at the Lake

One of my Christmas presents from Andrew was for a weekend at the lake for just the two of us. His parents agreed to babysit and he was to be my personal chef & fishing guide. He timed this weekend to be the one before Valentines, so it was perfect. This has become a Valentines tradition, 3rd year in a row! This would be the first time Carson has been without either one of us. He's been without me and without Andrew, but never at the same time. I was so sad to say goodbye to my little man, but I knew he was in good hands. I also knew we really needed this time alone. I have been so consumed with wearing the "Mommy" hat (and also the "Working Mom" hat), that the "Wifey" hat has been stuck hanging on the rack for too long. For those of you that are Mommy, Wife, and Working Mom, you understand how difficult it is to try to wear all three hats. That's a whole other post that I'll get to later.

Anyways, Toledo Bend is our lake of choice because the fishing is usually good and it's pretty close to home. The area we go to is all fisherman, it's not really a recreational lake (LOTS of dangerous stumps). Andrew rented a small home/cabin on the water, not our usual "high-class" (insert sarcasm) Midlake Kampground cabin. :-) (Note: Anyone that spells anything that's supposed to be spelled with a "C", with a "K" immediately loses "classy" status....sorry, HUGE pet peeve!)

Saturday morning sunrise view (the lake is VERY low right now)

We had a little red fox friend that hung out at night outside our cabin. We named him Tabasco. He likes dog food and little smokies. :-)

My hard-earned single catch of the trip!!! (Fishing was SOOOOO slow!)

It was so nice to sleep in each morning (even though my body clock still woke me up too early), eat a big breakfast, watch a movie (The Town...pretty good), spend some time with my honey and pups, do a little fishing (I'm like a little kid and get bored fast when we're not catching fish, so I took lots of pics with my new lens!), eat bad-for-me food like Reese's, Haribo gummy bears, and lots of fried stuff, enjoy wildlife (we saw a fox, bald eagle, deer, armadillo, squirrels, lots of birds/ducks, turtles), etc. I did have to pump on the boat several times (sorry, TMI)... good thing it was cold so I could use my jacket to cover up. The lake is huge, so it wasn't like anyone was really around... fun times for a mommy. Andrew knows me too well, he brought lots of snacks for me on the boat... if I could eat, I'd be willing to stay out there longer.

The best part of the whole trip might be seeing our little man in his souvenir, a t-shirt (size 18 months!) from Toledo Town Tackle!

That's all folks!
