Since our stubborn little man decided he didn't want to be born on the 21st, that Wednesday night did not count towards the 48-hour required hospital stay. We were initially told we could go home Saturday morning, but because of the jaundice they wanted to keep him under the lights for longer on Saturday. We ended up leaving Saturday late afternoon. My parents came back up to help see us back home. Even though the thought of going home and being on our own gave me a little bit of anxiety, we were both SO ready to get out of the hospital and be back in the comfort of our own house. I know Andrew was getting cabin fever for sure! I was too. I hadn't seen the outside world since early Wednesday morning (thanks to our interior room, we pretty much just had a view of another wall of the building), or even the outside of our room for that matter. We opted to NOT go with a fancy Feltman Brothers outfit as the "going home outfit" and instead went with the adorable alligator sleeper from Auntie Amanda and a little baby blue hat from Grandma Wannie.

Since getting a newborn in and out of a car seat can be challenging, we opted to bring the car seat up to the room and put him in it there in case it needed any adjustments. So, instead of me getting wheeled out of the hospital holding my precious little bundle of joy, I went out holding a car seat that was holding my bundle of joy. It ended up being the easiest thing, so no complaints here. I was the proud new mama riding in the back seat to make sure he was okay. :-) He didn't need me, he slept the whole way home. Unless he is absolutely starving, car rides pretty much are a sure bet for sleep! Surprisingly, Andrew didn't drive 10 mph the whole way, but he was cautious, of course. He always is.
Sadly, I don't really remember too much about when we first brought him home (it's all becoming a blur). I think he just slept in his car seat for a while.
We also got sent home with the Bili-Blanket (aka "Carson's Laser Vest) to continue to treat the jaundice. We thought this was such a genius contraption because it meant we got to take our son home with us instead of leaving him in the hospital under the lights. For that reason, it was, but it was such a pain in the butt. He REALLY got to the point that he couldn't stand it. Luckily, we only had to use it for a week.

More on my first days at home coming up next...
