Sicko...

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later...

Carson is SICK...and not just ear infection or cold sick. He has strep and has had a really high fever. Poor baby.

I got a call from his school yesterday morning (which you know if never a good thing), and they said he was running a fever and acting like he didn't feel good. Well, I was in Houston, so thankfully Andrew was able to go pick him up and take him to the doctor. By then his temperature was 102 and they said it was strep.

Andrew said he didn't act like he felt too bad most of the afternoon. He gave him some Tylenol and started the antiboitics. They colored and played basketball in the living room. They watched lots of Thomas the Train and Yo Gabba Gabba.

It got worse though and he couldn't take his temp because we have a drawer full of worthless thermometers. He said he was shivering despite being wrapped up in the blanket. By the time I got home around 7:00pm (with a new temporal thermometer in hand), he looked HORRIBLE. Andrew said he was almost acting drunk, and he was burning up. I took his temp and it was 103.9! I started to panic because I knew that was high. He had just given him his next round of Tylenol so I wanted to give that a chance to bring his temp down before freaking out and heading to the ER. We called the doc and they said that sometimes it takes a little while for the antibiotics to kick in and the fever will often hit that high peak before subsiding. He said to just keep giving him Tylenol every 4 hours and to keep giving him fluids. Obviously, if it didn't go down we'd need to bring him in. Thankfully, his temp did start to go down with a cool washcloth and with the Tylenol starting to take effect. We didn't want to put him to sleep until we knew it had gone down some. Once it was below 101, he went to sleep... VERY easily.

I felt like we had a newborn again, waking up every 4 hours to give him medicine and take his temp. It wasn't too high at 11:00pm, but at 3:00am, it had shot back up to 103.8. Andrew stayed up with him until it started to go back down again. Thankfully, it's been lower this morning and he's generally acting like he's feeling better. Poor baby...

I'm SO thankful that Andrew has a bunch of sick leave and is able to stay home with him today. I am smack in the middle of busy season and we're already scheduled for PTO this Friday and Monday to go to the Bassmaster Classic (whoo hoo!). Taking that PTO is a stretch, so losing any more time during the week would not be good. I just pray that little man starts feeling better and that we don't get sick too.
