30 Weeks Here vs. 30 Weeks There

All you mommies/preggos know that for 40 weeks, your life revolves around those "weeks." Before you're pregnant, you always think of pregnancy in terms of months, but oh how quickly that changes and it's all about weeks. I remember not knowing how many months along I was, only weeks. Anyways, once they're born, it starts off in how many weeks old they are, then it becomes months. We're kind of in that "months" stage now, but I still get my "Your Baby is 'X' Weeks Old This Week" e-mails, and my oh my how different those meanings are now versus when we were pregnant.

Then is was "Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jabs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you’ve also probably noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments."

Now it is "Baby's understanding of your reactions is rapidly developing. He might start testing you to see what he can get away with, but don't treat him like a defiant teen -- he's curious, not malicious. He also can't remember what you tell him for more than a few seconds at a time. The only discipline he needs right now is a simple "no" followed by some distraction."

Just for grins, I went back to my blog to see what was going on in my pregnancy world around 30 weeks. I still remember that once I hit 30 weeks, I knew we were getting SO close. Hitting that 30 seemed like such a milestone. So here's a little flashback with a few fun comments back to myself inserted...

"As you can tell from the picture, I'm getting big. I feel big. I'm still trying to imagine how I can get any bigger over the next 11 weeks. [Oh, it happened...you were huge!] It's really hard to get out of bed in the morning. [It is now too...but just because being Mommy & working is tiring.] I have to be on my side and push myself up with my hand. There is no more just sitting up. The tie on my house shoe came undone and I realized that I had to get creative to tie it while it was still on my foot. [It is nice to see my feet again.] Sitting at my desk all day or sitting at the table to eat is also uncomfortable. It's just hard to do much of anything leaning forward over this big belly. I still love it though! Tater [Tater! Ha!!!] has gotten SO much more active. It's so distracting though. All day while I'm sitting at my desk, he's just having Dance Party 2010 with himself. [I do miss that feeling, but a real touch or real sweet kiss is so much better!]

It's not the same quick jabs here and there that I used to feel. It's more him stretching I think. They are generally slower, stronger, deeper movements.... usually to my ribs or downtown. At the last ultrasound on May 13th, he was facing down, back bone up, so I'm thinking it's either a foot or his rear end. Sometimes there's action in more than one direction... poor little guy is getting cramped!

I will note that last Thursday we had our second Level II ultrasound to make sure our little Tater man was still looking good because of the whole two-vessel cord thing. He was perfect! BIG, but perfect! He was measuring over 2 weeks big and the doc said he was about 3 pounds 12 oz. [Now he's 22 pounds!!!! That's a BIG difference!!!] He's already outside the high end of the weight range. I asked if that meant that he might come early. The doc said "nope, not necessarily". He pretty much just said that we were on track to have a big baby. I'm all about tradition, and big babies run in the family." [Thank you Carson, you held up to expectations!]

So 30 weeks in baby world, not pregnancy world, means probably my favorite stage so far...at least in terms of cuteness. They really start having little personalities and are just full of smiles that could turn the worst day around. That sweet little smile and dimples just melt my heart. That laugh is contagious! He loves to grab at everything. He's a rock star at sitting up. He recognizes people in person and in pictures and gets excited when he sees someone he knows. He gives (very wet) kisses to me, not Andrew (b/c he's too scruffy). He loves the dogs, especially Lucy (and she loves him). He loves to be outside. He finds Daddy way funnier than Mommy. He finds the most random things hilarious (other children stomping cans at a birthday party). He loves to be around his little cousins. He started (happy) screaming when he saw Alexander. He still loves to nurse in the morning or at night which makes Mommy happy (during the day he has to take a bottle since I'm working...thank goodness for awesome pumps! I'm not sure how our mom's survived without one.) He loves his Exersaucer and can entertain himself. He LOVES to bounce in his door jumper. He loves to listen to Daddy sing & play guitar. I think he's going to have some musical talents... he loves to shake these little music things he got for Christmas...the kid has rhythm. He loves to make diaper changes challenging by rolling around and reaching for things behind him. He sleeps great at night ~7:00pm - 6:30am. He LOVES to eat. He still isn't a huge napper, but is getting better at falling asleep on his own, even if it is just for 20-30 minutes at a time. I could go on, but we have a 7-month update coming just around the corner, so I'll save something for that!

Make Ya Smile Monday...belated

I'd been doing good about making this post on Mondays, but this Monday got away from me. Here's a little cuteness to brighten your Tuesday!

Still Lovin' to Bounce!

29 Weeks!

Rub A Dub Dub, Carson's in the...

SINK!

So we tried something new last night based on Wannie's recommendation. While visiting Wannie & Papi, they gave him a bath in the kitchen sink (since he can sit up now), and he loved it. We'd never tried it before, but it also gives Carson a chance to watch Andrew cook dinner and for us to be together as a family for a little bit longer during the day. It is also so much easier on our knees and back. Mr. "I've had ACL Surgery" doesn't like to give Carson a bath in the tub because he says it kills his knees.

Obsession

And no, I'm not talking about Calvin Klein perfume.

So my new obsession is with eBay. Actually, I've always LOVED eBay, I just go through spurts here and there where I am obsessed with finding bargains on certain things. A couple years ago, it was estate jewelry, specifically gold bands with different gemstones. I ended up with a sapphire & diamond, ruby & diamond, and emerald & diamond bands. I wear them alone or put them with my wedding & engagement rings. They are all 10K or 14K and real gemstones. I got them for $30-$50 bucks each. I'm that eBay person everyone hates that is on there at the last second to beat someone by $0.50. Yep, that's me. I don't like to lose an auction. I have limits though, of course.

Anyways, so the recent obsession has been traditional, smocked boys clothes. Little boys pretty much get the shaft when it comes to cute clothes, but there are the exception! I love the little smocked jon jons and longalls. Retail, these things are RIDICULOUS, $30 to $60! I'm sorry, I don't even own many things in that category with the exception of suits and a couple dresses. Kids make a mess on everything and outgrow it before you even get them in it twice. So, I've been buying pre-owned and 18 mo, 24 mo, 2T, and 3T. Carson already fits in the 18 months stuff. He'll no doubt be in 24 mo & 2T this spring and summer. So here's the current stash...

Fishing

Barnyard Animals

Tractors

Cowboy

Ducks

Trucks (worn this weekend to LuLu's birthday...more pics to come!)

More Ducks

Gone Fishing

Lures

And if I'm lucky, in about 6 hours and 10 minutes, I'll have one with 3 little dogs on it too. Since most have "boy" things, like fishing, ducks, or trucks, Andrew is not opposed to these outfits. Generally, this style (well, more the bubble silhouette) is "girly" to him... but NO, he looks PRECIOUS! I am so ready for it to be a little warmer so I can get him in them! Look out ladies, we've got a handsome little man on our hands!

This was about 3 weeks ago. I know it's too big and it was way too cold, but I just had to get a picture.

Thank God for the Frog

So for as long as I can remember, Carson has not been a paci-lover. He did take one the first month or two, but he never really was a "scream the second it falls out" baby. From a paci-weaning perspective, this is awesome! No "oh, the paci fairy took it away" or "it magically disappeared" or cutting the nipple until there's nothing left. Can you tell I don't know anything about paci-weaning? :-)

He was given a cute little giraffee wubbanub, but of course he's never actually sucked on the pacifier part. Instead, he sucks on a leg, the tag, or the body.

Carson's newest crib friend is his frog. This was the frog on top of his diaper cake at our Diaper Party with Nick & Sarah in Baytown. Yes, I cut the heart "Ty" tag off.

He just loves to suck on it, whether it be he hand, foot, or body. This is now how he sooths himself to sleep.

Once he's soothed, the frog just falls where it may, even if it's on his face. :-)

Mommy is loving this frog because Carson's actually taken some decent naps now! Still not long ones, but he's falling asleep on his own in his crib versus every nap seeming to be in someone's arms.

Trusting Him...again

Well folks, we're back to square one. Over the weekend, I found out that our nanny is going to have to quit due to some health problems. She's only been here a little over a month and everything was going really good and we were all just getting used to the situation.

One of my biggest fears going back to work was not being able to find someone to come to the house to take care of Carson. I really didn't want to take the daycare route if at all possible - mostly so he wouldn't get sick all the time, but also because I have the benefit of working from home and not having to pack him up every day would be awesome. Even though I'm home, I really am back in my little office working, but it is so nice to see the little man at lunch or on the (probably more than necessary) coffee and/or water refill break. I also have LOVED having someone help around the house with the light housework. That's definitely another huge perk of having someone come here.

Back in the late fall, I prayed every day that the right person would come into our lives to take care of our precious son. Everything just fell into place. The nanny we found was the sister of one of the ladies at church that I have gotten to be good friends with. Her sister had been a care giver in various capacities but was ready for a change. It all just seemed too perfect and easy. I just considered it an answer to my prayers.

When I got the news over the weekend that her arrhythmia was flaring up again, my heart just sank. It breaks for her because she is far too young to be having heart problems, but also because she can't afford insurance and hasn't been able to get the care she really needs. The arrhythmia had never really been an issue until the last couple months. She ended up in the hospital in December one day/night because it got so bad. She’s had several episodes in the last month that really scared her too, where it lasted for 30+ seconds and she was really short of breath. She’s been really tired and told me there was a few times when she was walking with Carson around my house when she got really dizzy. It’s become so unpredictable that she’s just not comfortable caring for an infant. I’m not either. I definitely don’t feel comfortable leaving the house anymore knowing this is going on. I think she’s going to try to work until we find someone else, if she can. I just won’t be leaving the house anymore.

When I talked to her about it on Monday, of course, I put on my smiley face and told her everything would be okay and that I understood why she couldn't continue working. Deep down I'm saying to myself, "Fan-Freakin'-Tastic... what do I do now?" I am trying so hard to view this as she was just the placeholder until the perfect, permanent person came along. I continue to pray that the right person will come into our lives. I'm getting the word out at church and will probably place another ad on southeasttexas.com. I'm trying not to stress and worry, and instead give it to God. It's SO hard though. So, I ask for your prayers as well that we will find the right person and that I can fully release my worry to God. I also ask you pray that our nanny will be able to get the care she needs and that her condition will begin to be under control. I know she is scared too.

Had to Laugh at This One...

So the usual weekly newsletter from "The Bump" website just came... "Are you really ready for baby number two?"....

Um... NO. I keep thinking how many friends I had with a sibling one grade up or down. Wow. As much I seriously LOVE being a mommy, I couldn't imagine finding out I was pregnant again and repeating everything right now...not to say I wouldn't be thrilled to be blessed with another precious angel. I absolutely would and hope to be! I'm just saying if it were my choice versus God's (which of course, it is not), I'd wait a little longer. So anyway, wow... I have a whole new level of respect for those moms (and dads too) that pop out babies back to back. I can definitely see the 'pros', but I just think I'd rather enjoy being a mommy of 1 for a little longer.

Ok, that's all. Here's some cuteness for the road...

Fun at dinnertime...
