hmmmm...Legos are fun (the big ones that they make for 18mo+), big piece wooden puzzles, a rocking horse or scooter. Or you could do as my sis did and not buy anything because this is one year you'll be able to get away with it. hahaha.
Amelia got a Lego Duplo set (the larger Legos) and a rocking horse...she went NUTS for the rocking horse! But it is the first birthday, so really, cake will be fine. :)
we got A (from us) a little stand up piano with a microphone...she LOVED (and still loves) it!! got it at Toys R US!!!
