Trip of a Lifetime! Falcon Lake, May 2011

Well, I'm doing the blog post on my husband's epic fishing trip to Falcon Lake because he says it's "my" blog...whatever.

So, here it goes (since I wasn't there and all)...

First off, I wasn't wild about Andrew & his dad going to Falcon since it's so close to Mexico (and there was a shootout the day they got back), but according to Andrew, where they were was perfectly safe. They were several miles from the border, and he saw more Game Wardens and Border Patrol than other fishermen. So, from what they say, as long as you are well on the U.S. side, there is nothing to worry about. You won't see me going though.

So anyways, apparently the fishing was ridiculously AWESOME. To quote Andrew, "If heaven has a lake, this is it." They caught over a hundred fish a day, almost all were at least 3 pounds. They actually got tired of catching 3 & 4 pounders like these!

There were quite a few 5 pounders, and Andrew had several 6 pounders. Dan went away the Big Bass winner with a lifetime best of 8 pounds 1 oz. This is bigger than any Andrew has ever caught either. From what the local tackle shop fishing report has said, it's not at all unreasonable to walk away with one in the double digits, they just didn't get one this go round. On most lakes, if someone catches one over 10 pounds, it's a big deal for the whole year (or longer). At Falcon, this happens every week, if not more often!

So that's Captain Emily's fishing report for ya, here's some pics to prove it!

Road to the boat ramp (~3 miles of this)...

One of the 6-pounders

Can you guess? Dan or Andrew? :-)

Another 6-pounder

The 8-pounder!

Pretty sure Carson's head would fit in there!

Now Andrew is obsessed and is planning trip #2 later this summer.
